So where do canape’s come from and why do we have them? The French used the word ‘canapé to describe a couch or sofa. Some people thought a piece of toast topped with a savoury food looked like a couch (canapé) and hence the word took on an additional meaning and we have borrowed the word into English. Strange we know, but very, very tasty! The key to good canape is that it should be eaten in one bite so size matters.
